Bangor Probus Club

Bangor Probus Club is a long-running social club for retired and semi-retired men, part of the wider Probus movement that grew out of Rotary International to give people a reason to keep meeting other professionals after they stop working. It meets weekly at Bangor Golf Club on Broadway, giving members a fixed weekly date in the diary built around a talk, a catch-up and a cup of coffee rather than any formal business. Bangor has two Probus clubs, this men’s club and a separate ladies’ club that meets at The Old Inn in nearby Crawfordsburn, both part of the same national and international Probus network of local, independently-run groups.

What to Expect

Meetings run to a simple, unhurried format: members gather at the golf club on Tuesday mornings for coffee, conversation and usually a short talk or guest speaker, in the same easy-going register as other Probus clubs across Ireland and the UK. There is no set agenda beyond the coffee and chat, and the emphasis is squarely on company and shared interests rather than business or campaigning. It is a members’ club rather than a drop-in event, so anyone interested in joining or attending as a guest should get in touch with the club directly beforehand rather than turning up unannounced. The club takes a break over Easter week, all of July and December, so the August return marks the start of a settled run of autumn and winter meetings that carries through to the Christmas break.
