Dromore Show

At Dromore Showgrounds · Showgrounds, Dromore, Co. Down, BT25 1NQ

Dromore Show agricultural displays

The Dromore Show is one of those summer fixtures that pulls a Co. Down community together for a proper day out in the open air. Organised by Dromore Agricultural Society and held at the dedicated showgrounds on the edge of the town, it is an annual agricultural show in the traditional mould - livestock in the ring, local producers on the stands, and the kind of relaxed pace that makes it easy to spend a full morning here without noticing the time. It suits families looking for something genuinely local, farming folk with an interest in the classes, and anyone who wants a grounded, unhurried day rather than a ticketed spectacle.

What to expect

The show follows the format that has kept agricultural shows like this alive across Ulster for generations. Livestock competitions are the spine of the day - cattle, sheep and other farm animals judged through the morning and into the afternoon, with breeders and handlers taking real pride in what they bring. Alongside the main ring you will find craft and produce tables, trade stands from local and regional suppliers, and farm machinery on display. The atmosphere is informal and community-led; this is a smaller show where the organiser is likely someone you could actually talk to. Catering is available on site, and there are children’s activities to keep younger visitors occupied between the animal classes.

Getting there

Dromore sits in the rolling drumlin country of central Co. Down, roughly 20 km south of Belfast city centre. By car, the most direct route from Belfast is the A1 dual carriageway south to Dromore - the town is signposted off the main road and the showgrounds are a short drive from the town centre. From Newry, the A1 runs north. Translink Goldline services connect Belfast to Banbridge and pass through or near Dromore; check the Translink journey planner for the August timetable. Free parking is available at the showgrounds, which makes arriving by car the straightforward option for families with kit to carry.

While you’re in Dromore

Dromore is a market town with a small cathedral and a quiet main street worth a short walk before or after the show. The surrounding Co. Down countryside - low hills, green fields, and the occasional lough - repays any detour. There is more to see in Dromore and across Co. Down.
