Belfast traditional group Réalta play Down Arts Centre on Saturday, 10 October 2026, with doors at 7pm for a show Irish Music Magazine called “exciting, dynamic and addictive.” The band build their sound around dual uilleann pipes and whistles alongside guitars, mandolin, bodhrán and fiddle, a fuller line-up than most trad outfits, which gives them a bigger, more layered sound live than the instrumentation of a typical session band.
Expect energetic reels and rhythmic jigs alongside soulful airs and songs that draw on both traditional and contemporary sources, with the dual piping giving the arrangements a harmonic depth that sets Réalta apart from a standard trad line-up. The band has built a reputation on the strength of its live shows rather than studio output alone, and Down Arts Centre’s theatre-style auditorium suits that: proper seating, a real stage and a sound desk built for acoustic instruments rather than a pub PA. It is a two-hour show including an interval, running comfortably as a Saturday night out rather than a late one, with the venue’s bar open before the show and during the break.
Down Arts Centre is on Irish Street in the centre of Downpatrick, a short walk from the town’s main Market Street and English Street shopping streets. Downpatrick bus depot is close by, with Translink services connecting the town to Belfast, Newcastle and Newry, and there is public parking within a few minutes’ walk of the venue.
