At An Tairseach · Kilmantin Hill, Wicklow Town, Co. Wicklow
A documentary film, a farm-cooked dinner, and a live conversation with the people at the centre of the story - this is an evening that takes the Irish language revival seriously and makes it feel personal. IMMRÁM follows former Wexford hurling captain Diarmuid Lyng and performance poet Siobhán de Paor across a ten-day pilgrimage through the south of Ireland, tracing a grassroots movement to reclaim indigenous Irish identity, custom, and language. The film draws on the teachings of philosopher and mystic John Moriarty, and the result is something closer to a meditation than a conventional documentary. It suits anyone curious about Irish culture from the inside - not the postcard version, but the living, argued-over, daily-practice version.
The evening opens at 6:30pm with an organic dinner served on the grounds of An Tairseach, a 70-acre working farm above Wicklow Town run by the Dominican Sisters since the mid-1990s. The farm has held organic certification since 2006, and the food comes directly from that land. After dinner, IMMRÁM screens in full. Directed by Mieke Vanmechelen and Michael Holly, and produced by Fierce Quiet Films, the film premiered at the Galway Film Fleadh in 2025 and has screened at Docs Ireland 2026 - this is not a small local production.
The screening is followed by a Q&A with Diarmuid Lyng and Siobhán de Paor themselves, who are present on the night. Lyng, a qualified teacher and former intercounty player, and de Paor, who teaches Irish at Kilkenny Steiner School and leads creative writing workshops through Irish, bring a depth to the conversation that is rarely available after a film screening. Tickets are €45 and include the dinner.
Wicklow Town is roughly 50km south of Dublin on the N11. By car, it is around 45 minutes from the city in ordinary traffic. An Tairseach sits on Kilmantin Hill, a short drive uphill from the town centre, with parking available on the farm. By public transport, Bus Éireann routes and Dublin Coach services run regularly between Dublin and Wicklow Town; from the town stop it is a 10-15 minute walk or a short taxi ride up to the farm.
Wicklow Town sits where the Vartry River meets the Irish Sea, and the old harbour and beach are a short walk from the centre. There is more to see in Wicklow and across Co. Wicklow.
