Kildare Triathlon Club Summer Events

At Various venues across Kildare · Kildare, Co. Kildare

Triathlon race

Kildare Triathlon Club’s summer race series is one of the most accessible ways to get into multisport in the midlands. Whether you are a seasoned competitor chasing a personal best or a first-timer who has been training since January and wants a proper race-day experience, club-organised events like these are designed with exactly that range in mind. The atmosphere is low-key compared to the big commercial races, entry is straightforward, and the volunteer support is usually excellent - which is what you get when a club puts on its own events.

What to expect

The summer programme covers triathlon and duathlon formats. A triathlon runs swim - bike - run in sequence; a duathlon replaces the swim with a second running leg, making it a run - bike - run format that suits people who prefer to stay dry or are building towards their first full tri. Kildare Triathlon Club caters to different distances and age group categories, so competitors are not all racing in the same bracket - times are recorded and placings are meaningful. Entry fees run from roughly €30 to €50 depending on the event and distance chosen. Volunteers are on course throughout, and medical cover is in place. Transitions are a key part of any triathlon and the club typically has experienced marshals on hand to help newcomers who are figuring out the process for the first time. Pre-entry is strongly recommended as events can sell out; check the club website at kildaretriathlonclub.ie for the current race calendar, event-specific details and registration links.

Getting there

Venues rotate across County Kildare, so check the club website for the specific location before travelling. Kildare town itself is well served by public transport - Irish Rail operates regular services from Dublin Heuston to Kildare station, with the journey taking around 45 minutes. The M7 motorway connects the county to Dublin and Limerick, making it straightforward to drive from most parts of Ireland. Parking is generally provided at race venues; arrive with time to spare as transition areas close before the start and latecomers can miss their wave.

While you’re in Kildare

The county has a strong sporting culture, from the Irish National Stud on the edge of Kildare town to the open tracks of the Curragh. If you have time before or after the race, Kildare town itself is compact and easy to walk around, with the round tower and St Brigid’s Cathedral worth a quick look. There is more to see in Kildare and across Co. Kildare.
