Lakers Sports, Social and Recreational Club holds its annual 10k charity run through Avondale Forest Park, Rathdrum, on Saturday, 19 September 2026, with registration from 11am and the run starting at 12 noon. Lakers supports children and adults with an intellectual disability across the county, and the run is one of its main fundraisers of the year, bringing runners and walkers out to one of Wicklow’s best-known forest parks for a good cause.
The 10k route follows the well-known Avondale parkrun course, a 5km forest loop, completed twice, taking in mature woodland trails around the Avondale estate rather than road running. It suits both serious runners looking for a scenic trail 10k and casual participants happy to run or walk the distance for a good cause. Parking is available on site at Avondale, and entrants are asked to mention “Lakers” at the gate or intercom to be let through to parking. After the run, there is a full spread of free refreshments, including tea and coffee, along with a prize-giving for the leading finishers. Because it is a fundraiser first and a race second, the atmosphere is friendly and supportive rather than strictly competitive, though there is still a timed result for anyone chasing a personal best.
Avondale Forest Park is just outside Rathdrum, signposted off the R752, with its own car park inside the gates. Rathdrum has a railway station on the Dublin to Rosslare line, about a 10 minute walk or short drive from the Avondale entrance, making the train a realistic option for runners coming from Dublin.
