Laois County Council’s public call for sites suitable for employment-use zoning closes on Thursday, 8 October 2026 at 5pm. The consultation, which opened on 6 August 2026, invites landowners, developers and agents to put forward land they consider suitable for zoning as Enterprise and Employment, General Business, Industrial or Mixed Use, feeding directly into the evidence base for a variation of the County Development Plan.
This is not a public meeting but a formal call for written submissions, and it matters to anyone who owns or is considering developing land in Laois, as well as to residents who want to understand where future employment growth might be zoned. Proposed sites must support compact growth, be serviced or capable of being serviced within five years, have reasonable public transport access, and carry no major development constraints. Submissions need a completed form, a map with the site outlined in red, and supporting documentation setting out how the site meets the council’s criteria; the council is explicit that no land will be zoned purely on the strength of a submission being made, since further planning stages follow. Submissions can go in by post to the Senior Planner in the Planning Section, by email, or online through the council’s consultation portal.
Postal submissions go to the Senior Planner, Planning Section, Laois County Council, Aras an Chontae, JFL Avenue, Portlaoise, a short walk from the town centre and train station. Most submitters will find the online portal quicker than posting documents.
