Finding Words Scrabble Club meets at Portlaoise Library every Tuesday from 11am to 1pm, with the next session on Tuesday, 28 July 2026. The club is open to anyone who enjoys word games, from complete beginners to competitive players, and runs as a free, drop-in social session rather than a formal tournament.
Two hours of scrabble in the library’s community space, with boards and tiles provided for anyone who does not bring their own. Players are grouped informally on the day, so turning up alone is no problem, and regulars are generally happy to help newer players get to grips with strategy and scoring. The pace is social rather than competitive, with plenty of chat alongside the games, and the group has built up a steady core of regular attendees who treat it as much a weekly catch-up as a games session. It is one of a number of recurring adult clubs Portlaoise Library runs alongside its book clubs, genealogy club and digital support sessions, all aimed at giving people in the town a reason to drop into the library outside of just borrowing books.
Portlaoise Library is in Portlaoise town centre, within walking distance of the train station, which has frequent services on the Dublin to Cork and Dublin to Limerick lines. On-street and public car park parking is available nearby.
