Laois Intermediate Hurling Championship 2026

At Club grounds across Co. Laois · Portlaoise, Co. Laois

Hurling action at a Laois club ground

What to expect

The Laois Intermediate Hurling Championship runs one tier below the Premier Intermediate grade, split into two groups of four, and Round 3 is played across Thursday 13 and Friday 14 August 2026. In Group A on 13 August, Borris-in-Ossory Kilcotton host Abbeyleix St Lazarians GAA & Camogie at O’Keeffe Park, and Clough-Ballacolla play The Harps in Ballacolla, both at 7:00pm. In Group B on 14 August, Naomh Fiontáin Maighean Rátha host Ballypickas-Baile Piocas at St Fintan’s GAA Grounds, and Slieve Bloom play Tromaire-Trumera at the Slieve Bloom GAA Grounds, also both at 7:00pm.

This grade sits in the middle of the county’s hurling ladder and typically features clubs who field a second team at this level while their senior side competes higher up, alongside clubs whose main hurling team plays intermediate. The group format means every side gets a run of games through July and August before the top finishers in each group move on to the knockout stages later in the championship.

Getting there

The four venues are spread across the county: O’Keeffe Park and Ballacolla are in south Laois, St Fintan’s GAA Grounds is near Mountrath, and the Slieve Bloom GAA Grounds sit close to the Offaly border in the north-west of the county. All are best reached by car, with Portlaoise, on the M7 and the Dublin Heuston to Cork and Limerick rail line, the most central base for anyone travelling from outside the county.

While you’re here

Each of these areas borders good walking country, particularly around the Slieve Bloom Mountains near the north Laois venues. There is more to see in Co. Laois.
