The Laois Shopping Centre Senior Football Championship runs across three months in 2026, and Round 2 is the next stop after a completed Round 1 among 16 clubs. Round 2 is played from 6 to 9 August, and it splits the field: eight Round 1 winners meet in a Winners Section, where the four winners go straight to the quarter-finals and the four beaten sides drop to Round 3, while the eight Round 1 losers play off in a Qualifier Section, with winners advancing to Round 3 and losers exiting to the Senior “B” Championship for the John Conway Cup. Fixtures in this round include Portarlington against Stradbally on Friday 7 August, Arles-Killeen against Portlaoise on Saturday 8 August, and Graiguecullen against St Joseph’s on Sunday 9 August, played at club grounds around the county. Portarlington, the reigning champions and winners of five of the last six titles, are among the sides to watch.
From here the championship moves to Round 3 on 22-23 August, seeding the four remaining Winners Section losers against the four Qualifier Section winners, with the four winners reaching the quarter-finals and the four losers dropping into the Senior “B” series. Quarter-finals follow on 12-13 September, semi-finals on 27 September with an open draw for pairings, and the final on 11 October for the Jack Delaney Cup, the trophy every Laois club side is chasing.
Portlaoise sits on the M7 motorway, about an hour from Dublin and 90 minutes from Limerick, and is on the Dublin Heuston to Cork and Limerick rail line, so it is one of the easier bases in the country for following a county championship. Club venues around the fixtures list are all within a short drive of the town.
