What to expect

The Laois U13 Hurling Championship is part of the county’s underage structure, giving young players their first taste of championship-format hurling below adult level. On Friday 7 August 2026, the top grade sees Camross take on Portlaoise at 6:00pm, while the U13 “B” grade sees Barrow Gaels play Abbeyleix at 6:30pm, both fixtures part of the same evening of underage action at club grounds around the county.

These games run alongside the club’s adult fixtures through the summer and are typically well supported by parents, coaches and club members rather than a wider public crowd, but they are a genuine part of the county’s GAA calendar and a good window into how clubs like Camross and Portlaoise, both established hurling nurseries, are developing the next generation of players. The “B” grade format, as with Barrow Gaels against Abbeyleix, allows clubs with smaller underage numbers or developing panels to play a full championship programme at a level suited to their squad.

Getting there

Camross is in west Laois near Mountrath, Portlaoise is the county town on the M7 motorway and the Dublin Heuston to Cork and Limerick rail line, Barrow Gaels are based around Athy on the Kildare border, and Abbeyleix is in south Laois on the N77 to Durrow. A car is the practical way to reach any of these grounds, with Portlaoise the most central starting point.
