Summer Stars Reading Challenge 2026

What to Expect

Summer Stars is the free national reading programme available in all public libraries and online. Children complete the reading challenge by visiting the library, borrowing books and sharing their progress. Participants earn rewards, medals and certificates, and enjoy themed craft activities and storytimes throughout the summer.

Good to Know

The programme runs from mid-June through 31 August. It is free to join and open to children aged up to 12 years old. Craft sessions and storytimes take place at participating library branches. Check with your local Leitrim library for specific event times.

Summer Stars activities take place at Leitrim County Library branches in Carrick-on-Shannon, Ballinamore, Mohill and Drumshanbo. Check local library opening hours and addresses.
