Castlebar Tidy Towns Volunteer Clean-up

What to Expect

Castlebar Tidy Towns runs a regular volunteer clean-up open to anyone in the community who wants to help keep the town clean, green and tidy. Volunteers gather at the group’s Newport Road van site and head out to litter-pick, weed, or tackle whatever jobs are needed that week, whether that is town-centre streets, green spaces, or approach roads. It is a low-commitment way to get involved locally, with the group explicitly welcoming people who can only manage an hour here and there rather than a regular weekly slot.

Tidy Towns groups like this one are behind much of the year-round upkeep that feeds into Castlebar’s entry in the national Tidy Towns competition, and the weekly clean-up is the most visible, hands-on part of that work. It is a genuinely open group, with no experience or equipment needed beyond suitable clothes, and it is a practical starting point for anyone in Castlebar who wants to do something concrete for their own streets rather than just talk about it.

Good to Know

From April to September, the clean-up runs on Wednesday evenings from 7:00pm to 8:00pm, meeting at the Newport Road van site (F23 VK64). From October to March the schedule switches to Saturday mornings at 9:30am, at the same meeting point, to suit shorter daylight hours. There is no cost to take part and no need to book, volunteers can simply turn up at the meeting point, though anyone wanting more information can contact the group at officialcastlebartidytowns@gmail.com. As well as the weekly clean-up, Castlebar Tidy Towns takes on committee members and associate members for those who want to get more involved in the town’s entries to the national Tidy Towns competition.

Getting There

The meeting point is the van site on the Newport Road on the edge of Castlebar, a short drive or walk from the town centre with roadside parking available nearby, and it is signposted clearly enough that first-time volunteers should have no trouble finding it.
