Moynalty Grand Prix 2026 - Road Cycling Race

At Crossakiel Village / Ballinlough GAA · Crossakiel, Co. Meath

Cyclists racing at the Moynalty Grand Prix in Meath

The Moynalty Grand Prix is one of those road races that draws a proper crowd - not just club cyclists, but locals leaning on walls in Crossakiel village to watch riders roll through on a July morning. Organised by Moynalty Cycling Club and sanctioned by Cycling Ireland, the 2026 edition runs on Sunday 13 July on a rolling circuit through the Meath countryside southwest of Kells. It suits spectators who enjoy competitive club racing at its best, and families looking for a free morning out in a quiet corner of the county.

What to expect

Youth races get things moving from 8:30am on a shorter, safer circuit - a good entry point for families with children interested in the sport. Senior categories cover progressively longer loops: C3 riders tackle 73km, C2 two full laps at 80km, and the top C1 field take on three laps at 113km. The course is far from flat. It uses sections of road featured in Stage 1 of the 2025 Ras Tailteann and combines sharp climbs with tight rural bends that demand tactical riding as much as raw power. Race HQ and parking are at Ballinlough GAA, keeping logistics straightforward for spectators and support crews. The start and finish line sits in Crossakiel village itself, so it is easy to catch the action.

Getting there

Crossakiel is about 10km southwest of Kells via the R195. From Dublin, take the M3 north to Kells and follow signs from there - the journey is around 80km and takes just over an hour. Public transport to Crossakiel is limited, so a car is the practical option for most visitors. Parking is available at Ballinlough GAA on race day. Arriving before 8:30am gives you time to settle before the youth races start.

While you’re in Kells

Kells is five minutes up the road and holds the original monastery site associated with the Book of Kells - the round tower and high crosses in the town centre are genuinely impressive and worth a short detour. There is more to see in Kells and across Co. Meath.
