At Naas Golf Club · Naas Golf Club, Naas, Co. Kildare
Naas Golf Club throws open its gates to visiting golfers each summer for a series of open competitions, and the August Open on the 10th is one of the more popular slots on the calendar. If you play off any handicap and fancy testing yourself on a proper parkland course - tree-lined, rolling, with water coming into play at key holes - this is a good day out. You do not need to be a member; you need to book in advance, pay the entry fee, and turn up ready to play 18 holes against the field.
The competition is 18-hole stroke play, open to visiting golfers of all handicap categories, with prizes presented after the round. The course at Kerdiffstown has been part of the Kildare golfing scene since 1896, moved to its current home in 1940, and was redesigned in 2002 by architect Jeff Howes. The 11th and 17th are the most talked-about holes, each involving water that punishes anything offline. Fairways are tree-lined throughout, so accuracy matters as much as distance.
Start times from 9:00am put you out in the calm of a summer morning. After your round, the clubhouse bar and restaurant are on site for the prize presentation. Dress code is smart casual; soft spikes are required.
Entry is online only through the BRS Golf portal - walk-ins are not accepted. Check the club’s website to confirm the specific August date and to secure your tee time before slots fill. Entry fees are in the €60 - €90 range.
Naas sits on the N7, about 35 kilometres south-west of Dublin, and is one of the more accessible Kildare towns by road. The club is at Kerdiffstown, a short drive from the town centre, with parking on site. If you are coming by public transport, Bus Eireann and Dublin Coach serve Naas from the capital; a local taxi covers the last few kilometres to the course.
Naas has good cafes and restaurants for a meal before or after your round, and the surrounding Kildare countryside is classic horse country, with the Curragh visible on a clear day. There is more to see in Naas and across Co. Kildare.
