No CTRL: Expression NOT Suppression

At Clonmel Junction Arts Festival venues · Clonmel, Co. Tipperary

No CTRL: Expression NOT Suppression exhibition

A digital art exhibition running throughout the Clonmel Junction Arts Festival, No CTRL: Expression NOT Suppression takes its title from the keyboard shortcut that undoes your last action - and then rejects that instinct entirely. The work on show here is about what happens when you let expression run rather than pull it back. If you are curious about how artists use digital tools to push past self-censorship and explore what it means to create freely, this is worth a visit. It suits people who like contemporary art in an accessible setting, and those drawn to the broader Junction Festival atmosphere that fills the town every July.

What to expect

No CTRL sits within the festival’s EXCHANGES programme, which runs as a thread through the ten days of the Junction Arts Festival 2026 (3 - 12 July). The overarching festival theme this year is Exchanges - conversations about identity, culture, and the communities we belong to - and this exhibition feeds directly into that. The work explores themes of creative expression and freedom through digital art, asking what it looks like to make something without suppressing the first instinct. Specific venues are spread across Clonmel town, as is typical for the Junction Festival’s multi-site model. Check junctionfestival.com before you go for the precise location, opening hours, and any guided walkthroughs or artist talks that may be attached to the show.

Getting there

Clonmel is the county town of Tipperary, sitting on the River Suir at the foot of the Comeragh Mountains. By road it is well connected: the N24 links it east to Carrick-on-Suir and Waterford, and west towards Cahir and Tipperary town; the N8 (now largely replaced by the M8 motorway) puts Cork about 90 minutes away and Dublin roughly two hours. Bus Eireann serves Clonmel on several intercity routes, with stops in the town centre. There are public car parks on Market Place and close to the Showgrounds Shopping Centre. During festival fortnight parking fills up on busy evenings, so arriving before 6pm or using the outer car parks and walking in is sensible.

While you’re in Clonmel

The Junction Festival uses the whole town as its stage, so wandering between venues is part of the experience - there is live music in pubs, outdoor performances, and community events running at the same time. Clonmel itself has a fine main street, the old St Mary’s Church, and easy access to Tipperary’s river and mountain landscapes if you want a morning walk before the arts. There is more to see in Clonmel and across Co. Tipperary.
