What to Expect

On The Hoof, based at the edge of Gosford Forest Park near Markethill, specialises in outdoor woodfire cookery and hosts Cooking with Fire events during Armagh Food and Cider Weekend (3 to 6 September 2026). The sessions are led by Fiona and Rory Chapman and focus on cooking over open fire using a range of techniques and equipment including smokers, wood-fired pizza ovens, open fire pits, and asado grills. Two separate events focus on meat and fish respectively, and each session concludes with a celebratory meal of the food cooked during the class. On The Hoof began catering in 2015, specialising in American-style smoked BBQ using locally sourced meat cooked in a custom Texan-style smoker and a restored American Airstream. The Gosford Forest Park setting adds a woodland atmosphere to the experience. Fiona Chapman is a longstanding participant in the Armagh Food and Cider Weekend and is well regarded in the local food community.

Getting There

On The Hoof is near Gosford Forest Park outside Markethill, off the A28 between Armagh and Newry. A car is required; approximately 15 minutes from Armagh city and 20 minutes from Newry.
