At Mermaid Arts Centre · Main Street, Bray, Co. Wicklow
Our Blue World screens at Mermaid Arts Centre in Bray on Wednesday, 29 July 2026 at 8pm, followed by a question and answer session. Directed by Ruán Magan and narrated by Liam Neeson, the documentary visits twelve communities across five continents to explore humanity’s relationship with water and the ancestral knowledge that might help address today’s environmental pressures. The 90-minute film is certified G, suitable for general audiences, with sections in French and Spanish carrying English subtitles.
The screening includes a post-film discussion with director Ruán Magan alongside Professor Tasman Crowe of the UCD Earth Institute and Déirdre Crowe of the Water Museum of Ireland, giving the Bray audience a chance to put questions directly to the people who made the film and the researchers whose work informs it. Magan’s film moves between Burundi, Canada, Cambodia, China, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Peru and the United States, tracing how different cultures have understood and managed water over centuries, and asking what today’s water crises might learn from that older knowledge. It premiered in Brussels in 2024 and has since been screened at events including a special showing at Trinity College Dublin attended by former President Mary Robinson. The Mermaid screening is a standard cinema ticket rather than a members-only event, and the Q&A is included in the price.
