Strokestown Agricultural and Industrial Show 2026

At Strokestown Park House · Strokestown, Co. Roscommon

Strokestown Agricultural Show

One of Ireland’s oldest country shows, the Strokestown Agricultural and Industrial Show has been running since 1867 and draws well over 5,000 visitors on show day. In its 158th year it remains the kind of day out that makes a genuine claim on your September Saturday - livestock in the ring from early morning, the smell of fresh baking drifting from the food marquee, and kids getting their faces painted while their parents browse craft stalls. It suits farming families who take the cattle classes seriously, food lovers who come for the artisan fair, and anyone who simply wants a day with a proper crowd and a real sense of occasion.

What to expect

The showground at Strokestown Park House opens at 8 am, with judging under way from 10:30 am sharp. The livestock section is substantial - All-Ireland Championships run across Irish Angus, Hereford, Charolais, Limousin, Simmental, Shorthorn, and Roscommon breeds, with prize funds running to tens of thousands of euro across cattle and sheep classes. The Irish Draught equestrian section is a particular draw, with its Broodmare and Foal Championship judged at 4 pm. There is also a dog show running across two rings with 23 classes.

The food fair, “Flavours from the Heart of Ireland”, has in recent years brought together close to 50 artisan exhibitors alongside cookery demonstrations from well-known chefs. Separate from the food, the artisan marquees display farm produce, flowers, turf cutting, honey, jams, eggs, handicrafts, photography, and amateur art - competitions that go back generations in the town.

Entertainment runs through the afternoon, with country music and a jiving competition later in the day. Face-painting and children’s amusements keep younger visitors busy while adults work through the trade stands.

Getting there

Strokestown sits on the N5 Dublin to Castlebar road, roughly 25 km north of Roscommon town and about 155 km west of Dublin. By car it is straightforward from most of Connacht and the Midlands - take the N5 and follow show-day signs into town. Parking is available on-site at Strokestown Park. Bus Eireann serves the N5 corridor with routes connecting Athlone, Longford, and Roscommon town to Strokestown, though services on a Saturday are less frequent, so check times in advance if you are travelling without a car.

While you’re in Strokestown

Strokestown Park itself is worth time before or after the show - the Georgian mansion and its walled gardens are among the best-preserved of their kind in Ireland, and the Famine Museum on site is one of the most important in the country. There is more to see in Strokestown and across Co. Roscommon.
