The Sligo Coast to Coast is a 10-mile run and walk along the Wild Atlantic Way, starting at the roundabout near Sligo Rugby Club in Strandhill and finishing on the promenade at Rosses Point. Organised by Sligo Athletic Club, it returns on Sunday, 27 September 2026, with a walkers’ start at 9:30am followed by the competitive run shortly after. The flat, mostly coastal route takes in views of Sligo Bay, Coney Island, Knocknarea and Benbulben, and has built a loyal following among both serious club runners and once-a-year walkers.
The course runs point to point rather than looping back, which is part of its appeal: ten miles from one side of Sligo’s coastline to the other, with the mountains of Knocknarea and Benbulben visible for most of the route and the sea rarely far away. It is described by organisers and past entrants as flat with very little incline, which makes it manageable for walkers as well as achievable as a first long-distance event for newer runners, while still offering a genuine test over the full ten miles for club athletes. Entry is from €35 and booked online in advance through Eventmaster. Because the race finishes in Rosses Point, well away from the Strandhill start, transport back to your car is worth planning ahead of time, and organisers typically publish transport details closer to race day. Marshals and water stations are positioned along the route, standard for a Sligo AC road race of this size.
The race starts at the roundabout near Sligo Rugby Club in Strandhill, a short drive from Sligo town. Strandhill has parking near the beach and village, though spaces fill up on race morning. The finish at Rosses Point is a similar distance from Sligo town in the other direction, so runners and supporters typically need a car, or need to arrange a lift between the two villages.
