Summer Stars Reading Programme - Kildare Libraries

What to Expect

Children of all ages can participate in Summer Stars, a free national reading challenge encouraging reading for enjoyment during school holidays. Participants read books, audiobooks, picture books, or graphic novels at their own pace and track their reading progress. Libraries across Kildare host hundreds of fun events and activities including story times, workshops, games, and more. All participants receive a certificate of completion at the end of summer.

Good to Know

Summer Stars 2026 runs from June through August across Kildare’s library branches. Sign up is free and available at any library or online. Children can participate at their own pace and choose their own reading material. Follow your local library on social media for updates on specific events and activities happening in your area. Events and activities vary by branch location.

Getting There

Kildare Library Service has 15 community library branches throughout County Kildare. Main locations include Newbridge, Naas, Maynooth, Celbridge, Athy, and Kildare Town. Contact your nearest branch for specific event schedules and activities.
