Tadhg J Devery: Pints, Dentures & Rock 'n' Roll in the Country

At Roscommon Arts Centre · Circular Road, Roscommon, Co. Roscommon

Tadhg J Devery stand-up comedy performance

Ferbane’s Tadhg J Devery has built a following on the rural comedy circuit by doing one thing very well: bringing an entire parish of walking disasters to life on stage. This new show, the follow-up to his sold-out “A Day in the Country”, promises a bigger, wilder and more chaotic night than before. If you grew up in small-town Ireland, or if you’ve ever spent time in one, Devery’s characters will feel uncomfortably familiar - and that’s exactly the point.

What to expect

The show is character comedy, fast-paced and packed tight. Devery plays a cast of rural Irish archetypes - a farmer, a harassed housewife, a failed musician, an undertaker with some unusual cost-cutting ideas, a plumber, a foreman and a guard - each one “fully out of control” in their own particular way. The thread running through it all is everyday rural chaos: cattle problems, neighbourly disputes, financial pressure and the kind of situations that are only funny once they’re safely behind you.

His previous show earned strong word of mouth across the midlands and west, and this tour has taken him to theatres from Kilkenny to Kerry to Carrick-on-Shannon. The Roscommon Arts Centre date is part of a full national run in 2026.

Getting there

Roscommon town sits roughly in the middle of the country, about 120km west of Dublin and 50km south of Carrick-on-Shannon. By road it is straightforward from most of Connacht: the N61 brings you in from the south, the N60 from the east. There is car parking in and around the town centre close to the arts centre on Circular Road.

By public transport, Bus Éireann serves Roscommon on several routes including the Dublin - Galway corridor (via Athlone - change there). There is no direct rail connection to Roscommon town, so a bus or car is the practical option for most people.

While you’re in Roscommon

Roscommon town is a relaxed stop, with the ruined 13th-century Dominican priory a short walk from the arts centre and Roscommon Castle on the northern edge of town. The county itself has Lough Key Forest Park and the boglands and river landscapes of the Shannon. There is more to see in Roscommon and across Co. Roscommon.
