Tipperary Senior Football Championship Final

At Semple Stadium · Thurles, Co. Tipperary

Football final action at Semple Stadium

The Tipperary Senior Football Championship final caps the county football season, fixed for the weekend of Sunday, 18 October 2026 under Tipperary GAA’s master fixture plan, one week after the hurling final. This is the 134th staging of the championship since 1887, sponsored again by FBD Insurance. Clonmel Commercials are the club to beat, having won a record-extending 22nd county title in 2025, a huge return for a club from a county more usually associated with hurling strength. Twelve clubs began this year’s championship in three groups of four on the last weekend of July, with the final pairing to be decided through August and September.

What to expect

The top two finishers in each group qualify for the knockout stage, with the two best group winners going straight into the semi-finals and the remaining four sides playing off in quarter-finals first. It is a format designed to reward strong group form while still giving every side a route through. Clonmel Commercials’ recent dominance, built on a squad that has supplied several inter-county players over the years, makes them the team to watch, but Tipperary football has a habit of throwing up surprise finalists from smaller rural clubs. The final itself, when the pairing is known, draws a big crowd for a county final, with the scale and facilities of Semple Stadium giving it an occasion to match the hurling decider the week before.

Getting there

Semple Stadium is on the edge of Thurles town, within easy walking distance of the train station on the Dublin to Cork line. Bus Eireann also serves Thurles from around the county and beyond. Expect heavy traffic and full car parks in the town on final day, so building in extra travel time is worthwhile.

While you’re in Thurles

Thurles combines its GAA heritage with a genuinely historic town centre, anchored by the Cathedral of the Assumption and a good spread of pubs and cafes for before or after the match. There is more to see in Thurles and across Co. Tipperary.
