Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship Final

At Semple Stadium · Thurles, Co. Tipperary

Hurling final action at Semple Stadium

The Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship final is the biggest date in the county’s club hurling calendar, and Tipperary GAA’s 2026 master fixture plan has it fixed for the weekend of Sunday, 11 October 2026. This is the 136th staging of a championship that has run continuously since 1887, and it is sponsored this year, as in recent seasons, by FBD Insurance. Loughmore-Castleiney go into the year as defending champions after retaining the title in 2025, but with the championship only reaching its group stage in late July, who joins them in the final is still to be decided.

What to expect

Sixteen clubs go into this year’s championship, drawn into four groups of four seeded on divisional form from earlier in the summer. The top sides progress through quarter-finals and semi-finals in August and September before the two survivors meet in the county final. A Tipperary SHC final is one of the great days out in Munster GAA. Semple Stadium, the spiritual home of hurling in the county and a regular All-Ireland venue, gives the fixture a scale that most county finals elsewhere do not get, and crowds well into five figures are typical when local rivals meet. Expect colour, noise and a level of skill that regularly draws praise from national GAA commentators, since Tipperary’s club game runs as deep as any county in Ireland.

Getting there

Semple Stadium is on the edge of Thurles town, a short walk from the town centre and the train station. Thurles is on the main Dublin to Cork rail line, making the train a realistic option for a big-crowd fixture, and Bus Eireann services also serve the town. Local parking fills quickly on final day, so allow extra time if travelling by car.

While you’re in Thurles

Thurles is the home of Tipperary GAA and one of the county’s most historic towns, with the Cathedral of the Assumption and a lively market-town centre worth a wander before or after the game. There is more to see in Thurles and across Co. Tipperary.
