Tipperary STEAM Summer Camp 2026

At TBD · Tipperary, Co. Tipperary

STEAM summer camp activities

A week of hands-on science, coding, building and art for children in Tipperary town, run by Designer Minds - one of Ireland’s most established STEAM camp providers. If you have a child aged roughly 6.5 to 12 who likes making things, breaking things, and figuring out how things work, this is a solid use of the first week of the summer holidays. The camp runs Monday to Friday, four hours each morning, which also leaves afternoons free for families with other commitments.

What to expect

The camp is based at The Abbey School in Tipperary town and splits children into two age groups: Junior (1st to 3rd class, roughly ages 6.5 to 9) and Senior (4th to 6th class, roughly ages 10 to 12). Each group gets a mix of around 15 activities across the week, blending hands-on experiments with technology projects.

On the science side, children can expect polymer chemistry (making slime and oobleck), chromatography, circuits, and human anatomy explorations. Technology and engineering activities include coding, robotics, Minecraft maths challenges, LEGO stop-motion animation, and GraviTrax marble runs. Design thinking and team-building games are woven in throughout. About a third of activities involve screens; the rest are physical and experimental. There is no testing, no grading, and no homework - the whole approach is built around children learning through doing without realising how much they are absorbing.

The camp runs 9am to 1pm daily and is 20 hours of instruction in total. Spaces are limited: at last check, Junior had around 3 places and Senior around 5, so booking ahead is worthwhile.

Getting there

Tipperary town sits on the N24, about 35 minutes from Limerick and 45 minutes from Clonmel. From Dublin, the M7 and M8 bring you south and west with a journey of roughly two hours depending on traffic. Irish Rail serves Tipperary station on the Limerick to Waterford line, with connections from Cork and Dublin via Limerick Junction. The Abbey School is a short walk or quick drive from the town centre, and parking in the area is generally straightforward during school holidays.

While you’re in Tipperary

Tipperary town sits in a rich part of the county - the Rock of Cashel is 20 minutes away and Glen of Aherlow is just to the south, making the school run easy to pair with an afternoon out. There is more to see in Tipperary and across Co. Tipperary.
