My World in Wool by Sharyn Kelly

At Strule Arts Centre · Townhall Square, Omagh, Co. Tyrone, BT78 1BL

Wet-felted wool artwork inspired by a Tyrone landscape

Local artist and arts tutor Sharyn Kelly presents her first solo exhibition, My World in Wool, at Strule Arts Centre in Omagh, running from Thursday, 30 July to Saturday, 29 August 2026. The show is Strule’s contribution to August Craft Month, an island-wide programme run by the Design and Crafts Council and Craft NI.

What to Expect

Kelly transforms wool and richly coloured fibres into two and three-dimensional artworks that capture the textures of County Tyrone’s countryside, its woodland walks and its ever-changing scenery. She works primarily in mixed media, combining traditional wet felting techniques with lino printing and calligraphy plates, creating pieces that blur the line between fine art and textile design. Kelly has described wool as a naturally beautiful and versatile material that lets her creatively express Tyrone’s landscapes, and has spoken about enjoying the experimentation involved in building both two and three-dimensional pieces. My World in Wool is Kelly’s first solo show, and it sits in the Strule Gallery, the centre’s main exhibition space, following a run of shows there this year from the Sperrin Art Society, Rachael Johnson and printmaker Mary Kpakra. The exhibition is Strule’s contribution to August Craft Month 2026, now in its fifth year as a partnership between the Design and Crafts Council and Craft NI, with around 450 events and more than 2,500 makers taking part across the island, from Donegal to Dublin and Tyrone to Tipperary. The gallery is part of Strule Arts Centre’s wider complex, which also houses a 384-seat theatre, a recording studio and a dance studio alongside its café.
