At Grange Park · Mountjoy Road, Omagh, Co. Tyrone
Every summer Grange Park in Omagh turns into one large teddy bears’ picnic, and there is a genuine local reason for it: the song “The Teddy Bears’ Picnic” was written by Omagh-born songwriter James “Jimmy” Kennedy, and Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has built a free family event around that local claim to fame. On Saturday, 25 July 2026, families are invited to bring a teddy, a blanket and a picnic and spend the afternoon in the park.
The afternoon runs from 1pm to 4pm with a programme built around younger children. St Eugene’s Brass and Reed Band provides live music, and Tom Sweeney brings his “Tots and Teddy” show for the smaller ones. Libraries NI runs storytelling through the afternoon, and there are arts and crafts tables, face painting, bubbles, and a run of family games and mini sports. Local housing associations, including Arbour, Radius and Alpha, along with Western Trust Fostering Services, have information stands on site, so it doubles as a low-key community fair alongside the entertainment. Everything is free and run as a drop-in event: there is no set running order to plan around, just a park full of activity for the afternoon. Council support comes through the Department for Communities and the Housing Executive’s Housing for All shared housing programme.
Grange Park is on Mountjoy Road, a short walk from Omagh town centre. The park has been redeveloped as an inclusive, accessible play space, with blue badge parking spaces and accessible toilets available on site.
Omagh’s three rivers, the Drumragh, Camowen and Strule, meet close to the town centre, and the riverside walks make an easy add-on before or after the picnic. There is more to see in Omagh and across Co. Tyrone.
