What to Expect

Wexford Macra Jive Fest brings a weekend of old-time and modern jiving to the Ashdown Park Hotel in Gorey, organised by Wexford Macra, the county branch of Macra na Feirme, the rural youth organisation that has been active in Wexford since 1949. Friday night is built around live country music, with sets from Theresa & the Stars, Sinead Black and Adrian Ryan. Saturday is the main event: a nationwide jiving competition open to entrants from around the country, running alongside further live music from Allister Fingleton, Lauren McCrory, Alex Rowe and David James. The format follows the pattern of Macra’s long-running social dance scene, where competitive jiving sits alongside a full night of dancing and live bands rather than standing as an isolated contest, so spectators are just as welcome as the couples taking part in the competition.

Getting There

The Ashdown Park Hotel is on the Coach Road on the edge of Gorey, just off the N11, with its own car park for guests attending the event. Gorey is served by Bus Éireann and Wexford Bus routes from Dublin and Wexford town, both of which stop in the town centre a short taxi ride from the hotel.
