At Carne Golf Links · Carne, Belmullet, Co. Mayo
Carne Golf Links, the dune-land links course on the Mullet Peninsula, hosts its Wild Atlantic Way Ladies Open over two days on 11 and 12 September 2026. It is one of the more scenic outings on the west of Ireland ladies golf calendar, played across genuine linksland dunes with the Atlantic on view for most of the round.
The open typically runs as a two-day team format at Carne, historically 2-ball better ball in groups of four playing off full handicap, giving players of different standards a way to compete together rather than everyone needing to be scratch. Carne’s links is a proper test even at a social level: firm, fast-running fairways threaded through some of the highest dunes on any Irish course, and greens that reward a links-style approach over a purely aerial game. The club has run this event for a number of years, and it draws golfers from clubs across Connacht and further afield, many combining it with a stay at the Broadhaven Bay Hotel in nearby Belmullet, which has previously partnered with the club on accommodation-and-golf packages for the weekend.
Carne Golf Links is just outside Belmullet town on the Mullet Peninsula in far north-west Mayo. From Castlebar it is around an hour and a quarter by road via the N5 and R313; from Ballina, closer to an hour via the R314. There is no direct bus or rail service to Belmullet suited to a golf weekend, so a car is the only realistic way to travel, and Belmullet town itself has accommodation and food options within a short drive of the course.
