Armagh Ladies football team in championship action

Armagh Ladies Football have earned a home quarter-final in the 2026 TG4 All-Ireland Senior Championship, and they bring it back to the BOX-IT Athletic Grounds in Armagh city. Opponents on the day are Kildare, with the match broadcast live on TG4. For anyone who follows Ladies Gaelic Football and has watched Armagh’s dominance of Ulster over the past three seasons, this is a chance to see them in championship action on home soil before the competition moves to neutral venues.

What to expect

Armagh topped Group 1 of the championship after a hard-fought 2-15 to 1-15 win over Waterford - a game that went right to the wire, with Waterford nearly levelling in injury time before Niamh Reel tipped a free off the crossbar. Greg McGonigle’s side have won three Ulster titles in a row and are regarded as one of the genuine All-Ireland contenders this year. Kildare qualified from the group stage too and will arrive with nothing to lose, but Armagh have the crowd, the home pitch advantage, and the form to make this a compelling afternoon out. The winner advances to the All-Ireland semi-finals on 18 July. Tickets start from €10.

Getting there

The BOX-IT Athletic Grounds sit on the edge of Armagh city centre, on the Newry Road (A28), within easy walking distance of the city. By car from Dublin, take the M1 northbound and follow signs for Armagh through Newry or Portadown - it is roughly an hour and a half from the capital. From Belfast, the A3 runs directly into Armagh in under an hour. Bus Eireann and Translink both serve Armagh, with connections from Dundalk, Dublin and Belfast. Street parking is available in the city and there are pay car parks nearby - arriving early on matchday is advisable, as the surrounding roads fill up quickly.

While you’re in Armagh

Armagh is one of Ireland’s oldest cities and the ecclesiastical capital of the island, with two St Patrick’s Cathedrals - one Church of Ireland, one Catholic - visible from almost anywhere in the city. The Mall is one of the finest Georgian urban greens in Ireland, ideal for a walk before or after a game. There is more to see in Armagh and across Co. Armagh.
