Bilboa AC Athletics Summer Camp

At Bilboa Athletics Club · Bilboa, Co. Tipperary

Bilboa Athletics Summer Camp 2026

If your child has ever sprinted across a field just for the joy of it, Bilboa Athletics Club’s summer camp gives that energy somewhere to go. Running every August, this week-long programme puts young athletes through their paces across the full range of track and field disciplines - in a setting that is genuinely about enjoying the sport rather than competing in it. It suits beginners trying athletics for the first time just as well as kids who already train regularly and want to sharpen up over the summer holidays.

What to expect

The camp follows the Athletics Ireland summer camp format, which covers all the main disciplines a young athlete might encounter: sprinting, relay running, long jump, hurdles, shot putt, and javelin. Coaches take small groups through each event in rotation, so no one gets stuck on just one thing all morning. Sessions typically run from 10 AM through to early afternoon, leaving the rest of the day free. The emphasis throughout is on correct technique and building confidence rather than times and distances. By the end of the week most kids have found a discipline they did not know they liked. Bilboa AC is a well-established club with trained juvenile coaches and a track facility on site.

Getting there

Bilboa is a small townland in south Tipperary, reachable by car via the local road network. From Tipperary town, head north-east on the R664 towards Bansha and follow local signage from there - the journey takes around 20 minutes. From Cashel, allow a similar drive south-west. There is no scheduled bus service to Bilboa itself, so the camp is best suited to families with a car. Parking at the club grounds should be available on site; arrive a few minutes early on the first morning to allow time for drop-off.

While you’re in Tipperary

After the morning session there is plenty to fill the afternoon - the Rock of Cashel is one of the most dramatic medieval sites in Ireland and is less than half an hour from Bilboa, while the Glen of Aherlow offers easy walks with views across the Galtee Mountains. There is more to see in Tipperary and across Co. Tipperary.
