Boston Scientific Half Marathon

Clonmel’s biggest running event of the year, the Boston Scientific Half Marathon, is confirmed for Sunday, 23 August 2026, with Boston Scientific returning as title sponsor for a seventeenth consecutive year. Organised by Clonmel Athletic Club, it is one of the longest-running half marathons in Munster and a fixture on the official 2026 Tipperary Athletics calendar. The club has already revealed the 2026 finisher’s medal and long-sleeve shirt, both featuring St Patrick’s Well, a well-known local landmark, ahead of registration opening for the year.

What to expect

The 13.1-mile route runs out from Clonmel through the surrounding countryside before returning to the town, a course that in past years has been flat and fast enough to attract runners chasing personal bests as well as those doing their first half marathon. Previous editions have been chip-timed, included pacers for a range of finish times, and capped entries at around 1,000 runners, with a finisher’s medal, technical shirt and refreshments included. The race has built a loyal following over its long history and regularly sells out well in advance, so early entry is worth considering once registration opens. Clonmel AC’s volunteer network marshals the full route, a significant undertaking for a club event of this size.

Getting there

Clonmel is on the N24, with Bus Eireann services connecting the town to Waterford, Limerick and Kilkenny, and the train station on the Limerick Junction line a short walk from the town centre. Race-day road closures are likely along the route, so allow extra time if driving into town that morning.
