Every Saturday morning, the enclosed courtyard of King House in Boyle fills with stalls selling fresh vegetables, organic produce and artisan goods from growers and makers across north Roscommon and south Leitrim. The Origin Farmers Market grew out of a cross-border rural development project run by Una Bhan Tourism, the community group behind much of Boyle’s tourism and heritage work, and it has become the regular Saturday fixture for anyone doing a weekly shop from local producers rather than a supermarket.
Stallholders set up inside King House’s historic courtyard walls, so the market runs whatever the weather is doing outside. Expect seasonal vegetables, home baking, free-range eggs, jams and preserves, and artisan crafts alongside the food stalls, with the exact mix of traders shifting through the year depending on what is in season. Regulars tend to arrive early for the best of the produce before it sells out. Because the market sits inside the King House grounds, shoppers often combine a visit with a look around the building’s exhibitions or a walk along the Boyle River just outside the gate, making a Saturday morning of it rather than a quick stop.
King House is on Main Street in the centre of Boyle, a short walk from the train station and the town’s main car parks. The courtyard entrance is signposted from the street on market mornings, and there is on-street parking nearby for anyone driving in.
