Boyne Valley Camino Walk for ABACAS and Autism Support Louth Meath

What to Expect

Autism Support Louth Meath leads a 25 kilometre walk around the Boyne Valley Camino on Saturday 22 August 2026, setting off from St Peter’s Parish Church on West Street in Drogheda at 9am. The route is a figure of eight loop that follows the River Boyne out past Townley Hall Woods, Mellifont Abbey, Tullyallen village and King William’s Glen, before returning via the Boyne Obelisk and Oldbridge. Walkers of all levels are welcome, and the walk is guided by Boyne Valley Walking, the volunteer group that built and maintains the route, with an expected finish in the early afternoon after roughly six hours on the trail. Every walker who registers gets an official Camino passport stamped along the way, since the route is an accredited Celtic Camino formally linked to the pilgrim trail into Santiago de Compostela and was designated a National Trail in December 2024.

Funds raised go to two linked causes, Drogheda ABACAS Special School, which supports children with autism, and the youth clubs run by Autism Support Louth Meath. Since Boyne Valley Camino walks of this kind began in 2019, the different local charities that have hosted their own walks on the trail have together raised more than 200,000 euro, and this event is one of several dated fundraising walks that different groups book on the route each year, each with its own beneficiary and its own date.

Getting There

St Peter’s Parish Church is on West Street in Drogheda town centre, a short walk from the Scotch Hall and West Street shopping areas. Drogheda is just off the M1 motorway and has its own train station on the Dublin to Belfast line, with regular Bus Éireann services into the town from both directions.
