Clonaslee and District Agricultural Show

At Bellair · Bellair, Clonaslee, Co. Laois

Clonaslee Agricultural Show

One of the longest-running agricultural shows in the Irish Midlands, the Clonaslee and District Show has been running since 1948 - making the 2026 edition its 78th year. It draws a couple of thousand people to the grounds at Bellair on the second Sunday of September each year, for a full day of livestock competitions, crafts, vintage machinery, live music and family entertainment. If you want to see rural Laois life at its most celebratory, this is the day to do it.

What to expect

The show is a proper produce and livestock event with a prize fund of around €20,000 spread across a wide range of classes. Cattle judging gets underway at noon, followed by horses; sheep, ponies and poultry move through from 12:30pm; a vintage section draws classic tractors and machinery at 2pm; and the dog show runs from 2:30pm, including the Gain Dog Food All Ireland Final. Alongside the livestock rings you will find horticulture entries, baking competitions (including a Special Bakery category), crafts, photography, art, and a Sustainability and Climate Action category that reflects how traditional shows have kept pace with the times. Trade stands and a rural enterprise area round out the showground, and there is live music and entertainment running through the afternoon. With All Ireland Championship classes in several categories, the standard of entries tends to be high.

Getting there

Clonaslee sits on the R422 road in the north-west of Co. Laois, at the foot of the Slieve Bloom Mountains, roughly 20km south-west of Portlaoise. From Portlaoise take the N80 west to Mountmellick, then follow the R422 south-west to Clonaslee. From Tullamore it is a straightforward drive south on the R421/R422, about 25km. There is no useful public transport to Clonaslee on show day, so driving is the practical option. Parking at showgrounds of this size is typically in adjacent fields; expect a short walk to the entrance and bring footwear suitable for grass.

While you’re in Clonaslee

The village sits right on the edge of the Slieve Bloom Mountains, which offer fine walking trails and some of the most underrated upland scenery in Leinster - well worth an hour before or after the show. There is more to see in Clonaslee and across Co. Laois.
