Clonmel Racecourse opens its autumn card with a Thursday afternoon meeting on 1 October 2026, first race off at 2:15pm at Powerstown Park. It is one of around twelve fixtures Clonmel holds each year and follows the well-attended early September meeting, moving the action from summer evening racing into the shorter days of autumn with an earlier post time. Powerstown Park has staged racing since 1856, giving Clonmel one of the longer continuous horse racing traditions in Munster, and this fixture keeps that calendar going into its 170th year.
Clonmel is a National Hunt track, jumps rather than flat, set on a scenic stretch of countryside in south Tipperary. An October afternoon fixture tends to draw a slightly different crowd than the summer evening cards, with more of a traditional race-day feel and often stronger jumping form on show as the National Hunt season builds toward winter. The Grand Stand holds up to 3,500 racegoers and the Club Stand, with its carvery restaurant, seats around 1,000 for anyone wanting a sit-down meal before racing gets under way. A betting ring with marquee cover and a big screen trackside mean the meeting runs comfortably whatever the October weather brings. Clonmel sits on the N24, roughly midway between Waterford and Tipperary town, an easy drive from most of Munster and south Leinster. Powerstown Park is about 3km from Clonmel town centre, well signposted from the main road, with ample on-site parking. Bus Eireann connects Clonmel to Waterford, Limerick and Kilkenny for anyone travelling without a car.
