At Multiple venues in central Bangor · Bangor town centre, Co. Down
Once a month on the last Thursday, the creative community of Bangor does something straightforward and generous - it opens its doors. Late Night Art Bangor is a free, self-funded arts initiative that runs from 6pm to 9pm across multiple galleries, studios, cafes, and creative spaces in the town centre. It launched in January 2025 and drew hundreds of people to its first evening, and it has kept going every month since. This is the kind of event that suits anyone curious about local art without wanting to commit to a formal gallery visit: you drop in, move between venues at your own pace, and leave whenever you like.
The evening works as an open house across central Bangor. Creative spaces - from established galleries to working studios to neighbourhood cafes - unlock for the night and fill with art, makers, and conversation. Founding venues include Boom Studios, The Court House, and Seacourt Print Workshop; others who regularly join the circuit include the Bradley Gallery, Park Life café, Peppery Cat, Hop House, and Bangor Carnegie Library. The mix changes month to month.
What you find inside varies by venue: exhibition launches from painters, printmakers, photographers, and street artists sit alongside live demonstrations of framing, pottery, and upcycling. Music and performances sometimes appear too. Many venues offer complimentary refreshments. The atmosphere is informal - this is a voluntary initiative run by the artists and venues themselves, not a ticketed arts fair, so expect genuine work in progress and people who want to talk about it. Dog-friendly and child-friendly venues are part of the mix.
Bangor is roughly 20 km east of Belfast on the south shore of Belfast Lough. By train, the Bangor Line runs direct from Belfast Great Victoria Street and Belfast Central - the journey takes around 30 minutes and trains run frequently in the evening. By road, take the A2 east from Belfast; there is pay-and-display parking throughout the town centre and some free parking near the marina and seafront.
All Late Night Art venues are within walking distance of each other in the central area, so once you arrive, you can cover the circuit on foot.
Bangor has a busy seafront, a marina, and a solid concentration of independent cafes and restaurants that make an evening out of the visit straightforward. There is more to see in Bangor and across Co. Down.
