The August bank holiday gives Carlow nightlife an extra night out, and The Foundry makes the most of it. Part of the Dinn Ri Group’s entertainment complex on Tullow Street, The Foundry is widely regarded as one of Ireland’s top nightclubs - a serious venue that draws people from across the Midlands and south Leinster, not just locals. Bank holiday Sundays here are established events on the Carlow social calendar, opening for a full night when the Monday off means nobody has work in the morning.
The Foundry runs across multiple rooms on bank holiday nights, covering Commercial, Chart, RnB, House and Techno - so there is genuinely something different on each dancefloor rather than the same playlist looping. The venue is built for scale: four major bars, a video wall that spans over 120 square metres of LED screens (reputedly the largest in any nightclub in the world), and a sound and lighting rig that reflects the club’s ambitions. Over the years The Foundry has hosted international names including Steve Aoki and Jax Jones alongside regular DJ nights from resident and touring acts. The bank holiday Sunday format draws a crowd that wants a full night rather than a Tuesday wind-down - expect it to be well attended.
Carlow town is straightforward to reach. From Dublin, the M7 to the N80 brings you in from the north-east in around an hour and a quarter; from Kilkenny, the N10 is a short drive of under 30 minutes. Bus Eireann operates regular Expressway services between Dublin Busaras and Carlow town, and Irish Rail serves Carlow station on the Dublin Heuston to Waterford line. Tullow Street runs through the centre of Carlow town, and the Dinn Ri complex is a well-known landmark - you will not have difficulty locating it. Street parking in the town centre is available; there are also car parks within walking distance. If you are coming from outside Carlow for a late night, arranging onward accommodation or a pre-booked taxi home is worth doing in advance.
Carlow town punches above its size for a weekend away - the Medieval Mile along the river, Carlow Castle, and a good range of bars and restaurants on Tullow Street and the surrounding streets make it worth a full visit rather than a single night out.
