At Nenagh Arts Centre · Banba Square, Nenagh North, Nenagh, Co. Tipperary
Aishling Martin’s solo exhibition at Nenagh Arts Centre brings together drawings, paintings and collages exploring themes of value, transformation and perception. It is the kind of show that rewards a slow visit - work that asks you to look twice and reconsider what you thought you saw. Free to attend and running through most of July, it is a good reason to spend an hour in Nenagh rather than just pass through.
Glittering Eye fills the Foyer at Nenagh Arts Centre with mixed-media work spanning drawing, painting and collage. The title hints at the exhibition’s preoccupation: the way a glittering surface catches the eye and makes you question what lies underneath. The work explores how value is assigned to things, how images are transformed when lifted from their original context, and how much perception shapes what we think we know.
The official launch takes place on Thursday 16 July at 6pm and is open to the public. Launch evenings at Nenagh Arts Centre are friendly occasions - a chance to hear the artist speak, meet others interested in local arts, and see the work in its best light. If you can only go once, the launch is worth the trip.
Nenagh Arts Centre occupies a former Town Hall on Banba Square, built in Italianate style in 1889 and refurbished in 2010 into a proper multi-space arts venue. The Foyer is compact but well-lit, suited to intimate work that asks for close attention.
Nenagh is the county town of North Tipperary, sitting just off the M7 motorway roughly 35km from Limerick and accessible from most of Munster and the midlands. Bus Eireann serves Nenagh on intercity routes including the Dublin - Limerick corridor; the bus stop is a short walk from Banba Square. There is on-street parking around the square and a public car park on Kickham Street nearby.
Nenagh’s compact town centre is worth an hour on foot - the round tower of Nenagh Castle is two minutes from the arts centre, and there are independent cafes nearby for a coffee before or after. There is more to see in Nenagh and across Co. Tipperary.
