Feach, the national organisation for parents of children who are blind or visually impaired, holds its Family Day at the Midlands Park Hotel in Portlaoise on Saturday, 17 October 2026, from 2:00pm to 6:00pm. The afternoon is built for families raising a child with a visual impairment, combining talks from support organisations with entertainment to keep children occupied while parents connect with services and each other.
The day brings together speakers and service providers including NCBI, the National Council for the Blind of Ireland, alongside Fact Factory, Sight and Sound, and ChildVision, the national education centre for blind children. Expect demonstrations of the equipment and technology children use in school settings, from assistive tech to specialist learning aids, alongside informal opportunities for parents to swap notes with others in a similar situation. While the adults attend talks and speak with service providers, children are kept entertained separately, so the event works as much as a support and information afternoon as a social one. It is a smaller, more specialist gathering than a typical open family festival, aimed at the visual impairment community in the midlands, though understood to be open to any family who would find it useful.
