Market 54 Thurles

At Market 54 Thurles · Thurles Market Quarter, Thurles, Co. Tipperary

Stalls under the canopy at Market 54 in Thurles Market Quarter

Market 54 is the newest addition to Thurles’ weekend markets, launched in March 2026 under a purpose-built canopy in the town’s redeveloped Market Quarter beside the River Suir. Every Saturday, artisan food producers, craftspeople and small local businesses set up in the shadow of Thurles Cathedral, in a space built specifically to give the market quarter a permanent home and bring footfall back to that part of town.

What to expect

Market 54 runs from 10am to 2pm every Saturday under the new external canopy beside the river, a covered space that keeps the market going regardless of weather. The stalls mix fresh produce and specialty foods with handcrafted goods, gifts, and occasional pet treats, so the range is broader than a typical produce-only farmers market. Traders change week to week as the market grows, and organisers describe the goal as building a welcoming space where the community can gather and support local makers. It is a young market, having opened only in spring 2026, so the stall list is still expanding, but local press coverage has highlighted it as a genuine attempt to revive Thurles’ historic market quarter and give small producers a regular local outlet.

Getting there

The Market Quarter sits beside the River Suir in Thurles town centre, within walking distance of Liberty Square and the Cathedral of the Assumption. Thurles railway station, on the Dublin Heuston to Cork line, is a short walk or drive away, and town centre car parks are close by.

While you’re in Thurles

Thurles Cathedral and Hayes’ Hotel, birthplace of the GAA in 1884, are both a short stroll from the market. There is more to see in Thurles and across Co. Tipperary.
