Maynooth Football Club Summer Friendlies

At Maynooth Football Club · Maynooth Football Club, Maynooth, Co. Kildare

Football match

Maynooth Football Club runs a programme of summer friendlies through the warmer months, giving local footballers competitive game time and supporters a relaxed afternoon out at Rathcoffey Road. These are proper matches - not training exercises - played on the club’s full-size grass pitches against visiting teams from around the county and beyond. For a fiver or less on the gate, it is one of the more honest afternoons of sport you can find in Kildare.

What to expect

Kick-off is at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon, so there is no early-morning scramble. The action is competitive without the white-knuckle tension of a cup final - players are relaxed, referees are (usually) relaxed, and the touchlines attract a good mix of club members, parents, and those who just enjoy watching football played at a decent level on a good pitch.

Maynooth Town FC has invested significantly in its Rathcoffey Road home and it shows. The club runs two full-size grass pitches alongside a state-of-the-art 3G astro surface, and the wider facility includes proper changing rooms, a clubhouse, and a coffee shop that opens on match days. So tea, coffee, and something to eat are available without leaving the grounds. The car park takes up to 150 cars, so arriving by car is straightforward even at peak times. Admission is €3 per person.

Specific opponents and a full schedule of summer friendlies are confirmed as the season progresses - check the club website at maynoothtownfc.ie for the fixture list before heading along.

Getting there

Maynooth sits on the main Dublin to Galway road (N4/M4) about 25 km west of the city centre, making it one of the more accessible towns in Kildare for drivers. The club ground is on Rathcoffey Road on the edge of town, with on-site parking for up to 150 cars and no known charge for it.

By public transport, Maynooth railway station is well served from Dublin Connolly and Pearse - the town is on the Maynooth commuter line and trains run regularly on weekdays and Saturdays. The station is a short walk from the town centre. Local bus services also run to Maynooth from Dublin and surrounding towns.

While you’re in Maynooth

Maynooth is one of the more interesting Irish towns to wander after a match. The main street has a good spread of cafes and pubs, and Maynooth Castle - one of the largest Norman keeps in the country - sits just at the entrance to the university campus and is free to visit. Carton House is a short drive outside town. There is more to see in Maynooth and across Co. Kildare.
