The Mayo Older Persons Council combines its Annual General Meeting with a wider Information Day at the TF Royal Hotel in Castlebar on Monday 7 September 2026. Billed by the organisers as “an informative and enjoyable event,” it brings together older people from right across County Mayo for a morning of updates on the Council’s work, alongside information stands and sessions from services relevant to older residents. It is one of a small number of county-wide events on the civic calendar aimed specifically at Mayo’s older population, and sits within the broader Mayo Public Participation Network’s programme of community and voluntary sector activity. Registration opens at 9:30am ahead of a 10am start, with the day running through to 2pm, giving attendees time to meet Council representatives, hear updates, and connect with other groups and services represented on the day.
Older Persons Councils exist in every county as a formal channel for people over 65 to feed into local authority decision-making, and Mayo’s has an active programme of meetings and events through the Mayo Public Participation Network. Combining the AGM with an open Information Day is a practical way to boost turnout for the formal business, since the AGM alone would likely draw only committee members and regular attendees, while the wider Information Day format gives ordinary older residents from across the county a reason to make the trip into Castlebar for the day.
