Ray Bubbles is an International Bubbleologist and Guinness World Record holder who has spent years developing a live show unlike most things children get to see on a stage. The performance is structured as a series of levels - Ray must complete all ten to earn the title of bubble master. It suits families with younger children especially well, and because the show grew out of Ray’s long experience working with SEND schools and neurodivergent groups across Europe, it is designed to be genuinely inclusive from the ground up. Two separate shows run on the day, so there is flexibility for families who need to plan around other commitments.
The show is fast-paced and hands-on in feel, even if the audience stays seated. Ray creates bubble sculptures and effects using different gases, building through increasingly difficult tricks - volcano bubbles, soap bubble carousels, a tornado trapped inside a bubble, a bubble ghost. Some of the tricks can go wrong and pop without warning, which Ray plays into rather than away from, keeping the energy lively and the audience genuinely invested in whether he pulls it off. The running format, built around clearing each level, gives children a clear sense of progress through the show. Both performances take place at Droichead Arts Centre’s 169-seat theatre on Stockwell Street - a well-run, intimate venue that works well for this kind of audience.
Drogheda sits on the main Dublin to Belfast rail corridor, with frequent services running through the day. The journey from Dublin Connolly takes around 45 minutes on a commuter or intercity service. Droichead Arts Centre is a short walk from Drogheda rail station - the venue is on Stockwell Street in the town centre, next to the library in the Drogheda Municipal Centre. If you are driving, the M1 motorway brings you directly to Drogheda from Dublin (45 minutes) or from the north. Parking is available in the town centre car parks nearby.
Drogheda is one of the larger towns on the east coast and has plenty to keep a family occupied before or after a show - the medieval Millmount Tower, the Boyne towpath for a walk, and the town’s strong café culture all sit within easy reach of the arts centre. There is more to see in Drogheda and across Co. Louth.
