A Day of Automotive History brings a classic car show to the grounds of Strokestown Park on Sunday, 23 August 2026. Owners from across the midlands and west of Ireland park up on the estate’s lawns for a day built around vintage and classic vehicles, running from 11am to 5pm. It is a family day out rather than a specialist rally, admission is €10 for adults and free for children, and it fits into a wider summer of heritage programming at the Georgian estate, alongside the walled gardens, the Famine Museum and the parkland walks.
Cars are laid out across the grounds in front of Strokestown Park House, the Palladian mansion built for the Mahon family in the 1730s, so the setting does most of the work before a single bonnet is opened. Expect a broad spread of vintage and classic vehicles rather than one narrow marque or era, with owners on hand to talk through engines, restorations and provenance. Strokestown Park runs a full events calendar through August and September, and this sits alongside talks on the estate’s historic wallpaper, a guided walk through the Victorian walled gardens and National Heritage Week openings, so a car show ticket also buys access to the wider grounds for the day. Strokestown sits on the N5 Dublin to Castlebar road, about 25km north of Roscommon town and roughly 155km west of Dublin. Strokestown Park is signposted from the centre of the town, with visitor parking on site. Bus Éireann’s N5 corridor services connect Strokestown with Roscommon town, Longford and Athlone, though Sunday timetables are reduced, so check before relying on the bus.
