Roscommon Garden Club meets on the fourth Monday of every month at 8pm in the Abbey Hotel, one of the county’s longer-established community associations with more than 80 active members after 14 years running. The club brings together people with an interest in gardening for talks, demonstrations and outings, and it has an active fundraising side too, recently presenting a €1,200 cheque to the Roscommon Underwater Search and Recovery team from its own funds.
Each meeting typically centres on a guest speaker or seasonal demonstration, in the past covering topics such as Easter flower arranging and talks from well-known horticulture experts, followed by tea and conversation among members. Meetings are open to non-members as well, with a small door charge for anyone who is not a paid-up member, and the club also organises bus trips to gardens further afield, from sensory gardens to larger estate gardens, as part of its year-round calendar. New members are welcomed regardless of experience, and the club describes itself as an ever-growing presence in the town.
The Abbey Hotel is in the centre of Roscommon town, which sits at the crossroads of the N60 and N61, with Bus Éireann services from Dublin, Galway and Athlone and a railway station on the Dublin to Westport line. Parking is available at the hotel and around the town centre, and the venue is an easy walk from the main square for anyone staying in the town for the evening.

The club’s bus trips have previously taken members to sensory and estate gardens outside the county, so the evening talks often double as a preview of where the group might visit next.
