Roscommon Town ICA Guild, part of the national Irish Countrywomen’s Association founded in 1910, holds a monthly meeting in Vita House on Abbey Street, having moved its meetings there after previously gathering in Hannon’s Hotel. The guild’s year runs on a full calendar of book club sessions, trips, guest speakers and general conversation, and it is one of several Roscommon Federation guilds keeping the ICA’s tradition of rural women’s community groups active in the county, alongside others working to reopen guilds that have disbanded in areas affected by emigration.
Meetings follow the typical ICA format: members gather for a short business update before a guest speaker, demonstration or group activity, followed by tea and conversation. The 2026 programme has included a busy calendar of book club meetings, trips and guest speakers, and new members are always welcomed alongside the guild’s existing base. It is a relaxed, low-cost evening built around company and shared interests rather than a formal event, typical of ICA guild meetings held in towns across Ireland.
Vita House is on Abbey Street in the centre of Roscommon town, which sits at the crossroads of the N60 and N61, with Bus Éireann services from Dublin, Galway and Athlone and a railway station on the Dublin to Westport line. Street parking is generally available in the town in the evening, and Abbey Street itself is only a short walk from the main square.
