Harvest Festival and Family Fun Day at Sligo Folk Park

At Sligo Folk Park · Coopershill, Riverstown, Co. Sligo, F52 TX06

Traditional craft demonstration at Sligo Folk Park Harvest Festival

Sligo Folk Park’s annual Harvest Festival and Family Fun Day turns its recreated rural village into a working showcase of the skills that once carried a farming community through the harvest. The Coopershill site outside Riverstown puts on traditional craft demonstrations, harvest-themed games, live music and dancing, market stalls, and a pig roasted on a spit, all set among the park’s permanent collection of restored farm buildings and cottages. It is a family day out built around heritage rather than a fairground event.

What to expect

The craft demonstrations cover the kind of hands-on rural skills the folk park specialises in year-round, run by demonstrators working with traditional tools and methods rather than modern replicas. Harvest games add a lighter, family-focused layer for children and adults to join in together, and live music and dancing run through the day to keep the atmosphere going. Market stalls sell local food and crafts, and the pig on a spit is the festival’s signature food moment, a slow-roasted centrepiece rather than a quick snack stand. Because it falls during the park’s normal opening season, visitors can also take in the wider folk park collection of reconstructed 19th-century buildings as part of the same visit. Sligo Folk Park says bookings are open in advance of the day, so checking ahead is worthwhile if travelling any distance.

Getting there

Sligo Folk Park is in Coopershill, on the edge of Riverstown village, about 15 minutes’ drive from both Sligo town and Boyle, Co. Roscommon. The site is signposted from the village and has on-site parking.

While you’re in Riverstown

Riverstown is a small village built up around the folk park, with the surrounding countryside typical of the Sligo and Roscommon border area. There is more to see in Riverstown and across Co. Sligo.
