Harry’s Bar in Rosses Point hosts an informal traditional Irish music session every Sunday evening, one of a handful of weekly sessions that keep live trad music going in the villages around Sligo town. Musicians bring fiddles, flutes, accordions and bodhrans and play together in the bar itself, with no stage and no set list. It is free to attend and open to anyone who wants to sit in with a pint and listen, or bring an instrument and join in.
The session runs in the bar rather than a separate function room, so the music sits close to the counter and the crowd. Tunes are led by whichever musicians turn up that week, drawing on the standard traditional repertoire of reels, jigs and hornpipes, with the odd song mixed in.
