What to Expect

Thurles Parish is running a two day scrap metal collection at Thurles Mart on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 August 2026, with all proceeds going toward the parish’s cathedral reroofing fund project. The collection accepts all types of metal, from old appliances and farm scrap to cars, cans and cabling, and it works on the same principle as the metal recycling fundraisers that Tipperary parishes and community groups have long used to raise money for building projects: the scrap is weighed and sold on to a recycling merchant, with the proceeds going straight to the parish cause rather than to a middleman. It is a practical way for households and farms across Thurles and the surrounding parish to clear out sheds and yards while supporting the upkeep of the Cathedral of the Assumption, a building that serves the whole of the Archdiocese of Cashel and Emly and not just the town’s own congregation.

Getting There

Thurles Mart is on the edge of Thurles town, a short drive from the town centre and well signposted from the main approach roads. There is yard space for cars, vans and trailers to pull in and unload scrap directly, which makes it straightforward for anyone bringing a larger load such as farm scrap or an old appliance.
